Why A Mootsy?

PictureStrong, corrosion resistant GatorShield Tubing.
The Mootsy Portable Carport fits in a car trunk and can be setup fast without any tools.  Shipping is free in the lower 48 states.    The longest tube is 4 feet 8 inches so placing the Mootsy in a car trunk is easy.  There are only 3 different sized tubes (4 A-frame rafters, 12 roof linears and 4 legs) so assembly is not complicated.  Just lubricate the eyebolts with the enclosed tube of anti-seize, build roof first by slipping tubes in fittings/tighten fitting eyebolts by hand, install the roof tarp with ball bungees, install four legs and paws and then drive your car on the strong aluminum tire paws--car protected. Unique indented/swaged leg tube ends insure the roof stays attached to the legs in high winds.  The roof pitch comes in a 12-degree slope with a 2.5" rise per foot or a 20-degree slope with a 4" rise per foot.  Your roof pitch selection depends on the snow load in your area. But snow should be removed from the roof which is easy because the Mootsy Roof is low.  The frame is held together with heavy duty galvanized steel silver or gold tint pipe fittings with large eyebolt thumb turns and a high strength USA made Allied GatorShield 1 3/8", 17 gauge galvanized steel tubing.   Total Mootsy Carport weight is 115 pounds.

Mootsy's Strong, Rust Resistant Steel Tubes:

The Mootsy Carport uses 68 pounds of strong Allied GatorShield®, 17 gauge, 1 3/8 inch diameter steel tubing with 45 ksi tensile strength.    Gatorshield USA manufactured by Allied Tube & Conduit is a patented triple layer Flo-Coat® rust and corrosion resistant product which has shown itself to be the best over the long haul.  When rust and corrosion protection is needed--Gatorshield® is the best!  GatorShield strong tubing is given superior corrosion resistance coatings of zinc and chromate, then a clear polymer topcoat seals the surface.
Additionally, the zinc interior coating provides the inside of the tube maximum corrosion and rust protection for long-lasting rust and corrosion protection. GatorShield's bright, smooth and uniform surface retains its attractive appearance for an extended period. These quality tubes make the Mootsy heavier and more expensive, but we think it's worth it.

And the Mootsy is the only portable carport that has all 4 tube legs swaged or narrowed on both leg tube ends which allow the Foot Pad Fittings and Side Roof Fittings eyebolts to tighten into a deep tube grove to lock the roof down in high winds.  No one else does this tube swaging because of the additional cost, but we think the added cost is worth it.  Also, the swaging area also allows for an easy 4-inch increase in the roof leg height from 4 feet 8 inches to 5 feet.  See our Mootsy Kit page for carport dimensions.

Fully Welded Steel Tube Fittings and Best Bungees:
The Mootsy Carport has 13 tube-fittings weighing 24 pounds total.  They are forged from high-grade galvanized steel with zinc anodized coating.   These fittings have fully welded connections that are guaranteed for life for breaking apart.  All tube fittings come with strong eye-bolt screws and smooth anodized zinc coating. Included in the Mootsy is a 1 oz. tube of Permatex Anti-Seize Lubricant to be applied on all fitting eye-bolt threads for smooth, accurate tightening.  The Mootsy fittings are made in Korea.

Bungee Balls are the best available using real virgin rubber and UV coating for long life.   Made in India.

Silver Custom-Size "Sun Blocker" Poly Tarp-5.5 Pounds
100 % light block, rip resistant, UV treated, UV blocking, tough triple-layer 10 mil, 6 oz weight woven silver polyethylene tarp with metal grommets every 18" to attach with ball bungees to the side tubing.  Inside is 14 x 14 mesh count, black yarn for total sun block.  Outer corners are reinforced.  Mootsy Tarps are ultra violet treated, 100% water proof, mildew and rot restistant.  Tarp is 7 feet 6 inches by 17 feet 6 inches.  Made in China and then custom cut to Mootsy length in the USA.   Cheap blue tarps are 3.5 mil, 2.5 oz weight and allow in damaging light and water.

Mootsy 1/8" Aluminum Plates/Paws:
The Mootsy 4 Aluminum Tire Paws weigh 15 pounds and are strong "Road Sign Quality" 5052 Aluminum Alloy.  These Tire Paws are not like weak beer can aluminum.  They are strong and are very resistant to corrosion, bending and cracking.   They should last a long time without extreme abuse.   Made in the USA.

The Mootsy Carport:
The Mootsy does not need stakes or weights to hold down when your car is resting on the aircraft quality aluminum tire paws.  If you like, you can stake the foot pads (4 stake holes on each pad) to the ground located under the tire plates.
Or you can lag-bolt the foot pads to concrete.

And remember, the Mootsy can be quickly taken down and re-set back up anywhere a car can be parked either on concrete or dirt--just place the tires on the 4 Mootsy Paws!

Sudden overnight heavy-wet 12-inch snow storm...no worries...Boss 302 Mustang is dry and safe. This is a 12-degree pitch roof not recommended for heavy snow areas. The 20-degree pitch is better for snow, but snow should be removed from the roof.
All canopy style shelters are considered temporary structures not designed to withstand severe heavy wind or extreme snow without being anchored down in some manner.  Anchoring of a Mootsy is required by the car resting on all 4 tire plates.  Heavy wind on a Mootsy without a car anchoring it can be dangerous.   Failure to anchor the Mootsy in any unpredictable weather can be unsafe and lead to property damage or worse.  In very extreme weather conditions the roof tarp should be removed for safety.  Also, the structure itself should be inspected regularly and all fitting I-bolts hand tightened monthly.
